Stacking some pumpkins...

Im lovin' these. I did make one a few years back but they didnt last too long. Maybe cause I start decorating for fall way too early. Maybe cause it was 110 degrees outside and my pumpkins went to pot! This year I may try my hands at some of the faux ones. Isnt that such a funny word..faux. Im sure they would work about the same. Im thinking also about making some mini ones and putting them in my urns. Guess I need to do a little bit of shopping.

Thought you may like to see how Lowes did their's. Im not as fancy. I will try to remember to take pictures so yall can see how it's done down in the south...have a great one!

I did a small "faux" version of this about 4 years ago. It's back in the storage area of the basement, waiting to come out for Fall. I was at Michaels the other day. They had a lot of different size pumpkins. I should buy some of the white ones and make another one. The little one I have is made with orange pumkins. I set it in a little brown crock and wrap a "faux" vine around it.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

How pretty!

I went to the Dollar Tree yesterday and got 3 brown pumpkins, but the white ones were all gone, the cashier said they had them, but they went fast. Of course, that is the ONE I went there for, lol, Murphy's Law!

Thanks for the project idea! I love decorating for the fall...but I am the only one in the neighborhood that does! And this is a nice sub, too...I think it is because we all sit way back off of the road...my old neighborhood was so cute in the fall, everyone got into it!

How cute is that??? I love it! Thanks for putting the "how to" picture on there... I copied it and will TRY to copy it once it cools down. Growing up in FL, we never carved pumpkins until the night before Halloween... they rotted outside in a day! I think I'll have the same problem in Georgia!

Thanks for posting the directions and inspiring me to start getting ready for Fall. I never really decorate in the fall because about the time I'm ready, it's time to pull out the Christmas decorations. I love the colors and decorations for Fall. I'm getting a head start with my new tassels:) I can't wait to see them!

I went to Dollar Tree yesterday (after promising my husband I would NOT buy any more birds!) and had three pumpkins picked out, but then remembered my husband telling me he was putting a moratorium on my making any more decorating purchases until I finish some of the projects I've yet to start! Sigh...and they were such cute pumpkins...maybe I'll get something accomplished and go back this weekend! : )

I love these. I have been wanting to try to make one for a few years now...maybe this is the year! Thanks for sharing the little how-to illustration!

Oh, Susie, I love this idea. I don't know how it would look on my front porch but I may just have to try it.

You are getting me in the mood for fall!!! I can't wait! I'm headed off to the Dollar Tree today!

I have done these before and LOVE the look! I just stacked the pumpkins and wrapped some leaves/branches decoration around the base where the pumpkin meets the urn. The Lowe's directions might be a bit more stable, though! Still need to check out Dollar Tree--think I'll head there today! Thanks for the Fall inspiration, I can't wait! :)

I love all the things you do. I can't wait until we get our own house next year so I can get busy decorating. The fall time that the best time to decorate -- Ilove all the pumkins.

Hi Susie,
You have me smiling this morning...faux is a funny word. But it does sound more classy than fake or artificial! LOL

Thanks for the picture of the way the pumpkins are fixed...doesn't look too hard!

I'm loving this idea! I think faux punkins would work better down south.

Last year, I visited a friend and she had spray painted her punkins. One was black and she had put tape to make stripes in the orange. One was white and she placed star stickers on it before she painted. Turned out really cute. I'm sure my description is confusing, but I plan to do this next month. Or, I may look for faux ones to paint, too.

Every year I think I will do this and then Fall gets away from me....oh well, maybe this year. I like the idea of mini ones too, maybe tallish ones for the ends of the mantel.

I did a similar idea a few years ago but not as technical. I just stacked them on straw, wrapped some bittersweet around the layers and called it good! I'm clearly not as cleaver! Due to the fact that I live in a colder climate, mine lasted until Thanksgiving.

Oooooooooo! Love it! I am all over that! Must find some faux pumpkins.

Oh I'm so glad you posted this! I wanted to make it last year but ran out of time. I think I will get a jump start this year.

I started on my bathroom yesterday. I'm in one grouchy mood today. Sigh....

Is it fall already! Here in TN we can expect warm weather until October. Although, I start listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving!

I wish I could get more into Fall decorating, but every year, I just don't do it. I do enjoy seeing everyone else's pumpkins though. I've seen the stacked pumpkins on decorating boards in the past & they are very cute & welcoming.

These are so pretty. I might try and attempt it this year. I think I will go with faux, so they can be used for more than one year. I bet yours will be amazing.

I love these. I do the same thing where I start decorating for Fall too soon and then everything is rotting and caving in on itself before Halloween. I just love decorating for Fall! -Julia

I have been eyeing this idea for years, so I hope you can show us how "easy" it is. If not, I'll try the mini version. I just love it!

I've done this for the past couple of years and love it. I just stack mine on top of eachother and they stay. One year I might have used a little super glue! :) I use all different colors though. I can't wait!!

Those are so cute! I will have to try them out, for my fall decor. I have 2 large planters with ferns in them right now. I had planned on changing them out and making topiaries. I was gonna have to put concrete in the bottom anyway, so this will work out great.

Do they make extra large faux pumpkins? All I ever see are the medium sized ones. Thanks for putting up the diagram, that will help!

Christina said...

I'd love to make one of those for my porch. I can't even keep a potted plant standing up on my porch, though. It's so small and all the kids in the neighborhood are always messing stuff up!

I ahve always loved those. I have made some stacking pumpkins with faux pumkins and I loved how they turned out. Super cute and easy. I found ugly colored pumpkins on sale and I just painted them. they were way cheaper than the reular colored pumpkins. Go figure. Hobby Lobby is where I got them.

I totally bought an urn for our small entry way to try and do the same thing...well not the Lowe's method. It was all going to be an experiment. Maybe I will wait to see yours so it will take out a lot of my guess work! Thanks for the continuing inspiration!

Hi Susie, glad to hear Jesse is doing better. We are going in for blood work today too, but she is so much better it is amazing. Now onto the pumpkins, I love this! I have never been to a dollar tree but they have one close to where I work, Yippeeee! I bet their stock goes up because of you promoting them!! (Big smile). They may wonder why they are selling so many pumpkins! It will be a record year!

Hello Miz Susie,
I feel like I've been living at The Lobby with some crazy long work hours last couple of days plus a power outage at home (from 9 pm till 4 am last night) that has sure cut into my bloggy reading time. I heart the pumpkin topiary, have been wanting to try my hand at one for several years now. Especially with a wedding to plan for next fall *sigh* Can't wait to see your spin on it :)

I'm so glad *smiles* you totally understood where I was going with (xyz). I ran across (xyz) before leaving town and thought about you. Came home to see you were on top of things *smiles* handling it with your natural grace and charm! If you're half as sweet in person as you are in bloggy-land then I'm sure you attract friends like bees to honey, you're a sweetie, don't change a single thing, trust your instincts, follow your bliss, create your heart out. Be you. *hugs*

Fall is my favorite time of year. I have seen these before, but it is so hot here if I punctured a real pumpkin and put it on the porch it would surely rot. Saw some fake pumpkins at wal-mart, but not very large. These would be great done in a smaller version for an mantle.
