And the color is....

So many of you have asked what are my colors so I shall spill the beans. I use my Sherwin Williams book at Wal Mart. I get the same look and color for much less. Dover White is the color used for the bottom of my dining room.

Here you can see both of the colors I have used. Dover White at the bottom....

and comfort gray for the top. I know it looks very gray here on the strip but on the wall it is the best blue ever!

Here are the two together! They just love one another...hehe~

I know a few days ago I mentioned that my dover white was looking a bit yellow. I think it was just me....ha! I did try another color and didnt like it very much. It was too brown and Comfort gray was not feeling it  so I fixed my mess and Im leaving well enough alone...for now, Ha!

Moving into my living room you will find the best color ever....RELAXED KHAKI! Have you picked up on my color wheel....comfort...relaxed....~ Those are two things I want people to feel when they step into my home.

Relaxed Khaki is just one of those colors that plays well with others. I have had so many accent colors in this room and RK just loved on them all!

Yes, I am one of those that painted my ceiling and I have loved it. It may not be the look for everyone but for me it was the best thing I could have ever done for this room. I used Rainwashed and it just sets this room apart from the entire house...in a good way!

This picture above shows the true colors of the two. The soft blue and warm brown calm this room. I guess that's  how I can afford to use a red sofa. Love it!

My bedroom...a space where I needed a peaceful color. Can you guess what color it is? I will give you a hint...I have used it in another room shown on this post... If you guessed Comfort Gray you guessed right. In this room it looks a bit diffrent because of the lighting but I love it all the same. So there you have it...some of my favorite colors. What is your favorite color?

  1. once again you have inspired me!!! I absolutley LOVE the sign with the "iam" on it.. I was wondering am I allowed to do something like this in a smaller version without messing with any copy infringements? If i could afford it i would have you do it..but at last i can't soooo im hoping to do it myself! :0) you are such a inspiritation.

  2. love all those colors! Favorite colors in my house are a toss up between SW Hearts of Palm in my kitchen/dining and BM Smoke in our office/future nursery. I am not happy with the color in our living room but repainting would be such a pain I am not considering it.

  3. I have used ALL those colors too! They are THE BEST! And so are YOU!

  6. Susie, Thanks so much for the names of the colors you used. They are so soothing and peaceful looking to me. My whole house is green and I am getting really tire of green. I think 2010 is the year I start to make some color changes and seeing these has helped so much!!

  9. Susie I love that painting you have on your mantle. The one that says ABBA, Savior, etc... Did you make that? Is it for sale?

  10. Hi Darlene! I did make and sell one a few weeks back. I may just have to show yall how to make one of your own. Interested?

  11. Thanks so much for sharing your colors! This post was perfect timing for me...we are moving! Do you have Walmart color match your SW chips? Or do they have SW formulas?

  12. love all these colors, thanks for sharing. My kitchen I used the Sherwin williams color "softer tan", and had it mixed at Lowes

  13. Mj, I bring my SW book with me to Wal Mart and they put it on their magic color matching machine and wahla...a matched color. God bless the man (or woman) that invented that baby!

  14. Yes, show us how you did the painting shown on your mantle - you are so creative and to see your projects is motivating -

  15. Forgive me if in our next house I paint all my rooms the colors you have chosen. :) We used varying shades of a color called "English Oak". It's a ColorPlace shade that we had mixed into Kilz paint (I looove kilz paint). Other rooms in our home are varying shades on that paint chip strip thing. Everything is pretty dark but I really love it. I like decorating with white and black so it really sets our wall color off and vice versa. Our next hosue though - definatly lightening up. Love your paint choices!!

  16. Lovely! I've been using WM paint for several years now and I cannot tell the difference between it and our American Traditions from Lowe's, except maybe it isn't QUITE as good with coverage. Your colors are beautiful!!!

  17. Love all of your calming colors! That is my project for this winter. I am repainting our entire downstairs. I have Tobacco Road right now and I do love it but am wanting to have a more calming color. Thanks for the inspiration!

  18. Don't you just love the names of paint colors? I do. I have a few rooms that I am going to paint soon and I am doing something special under the bar. (island) I can't wait to show everyone. I love the gray color. I wanted a gray bedroom but it just didn't go with the carpet. Your dining room looks great and I enjoy looking at all the gray rooms online.

  19. I love paint and I love to paint so it drives my family crazy that I change things so often. But with trying to do other more creative things I am trying now to calm the house down and neutralize it.
My FAVE color is Behr- Cup of Cocoa.
It is such a great taupe/tan. That color is hard as it comes off as too green or too pink but this one just rocks. We are painting the whole downstairs that color as the rooms flow. I need to touch up or redo our moldings and right now it is sterile as a hospital white. I like the dover - not too white not yellow. Might have to get that one and try it out.

Oh and comments on the names of colors- I am weird in that I will not buy a paint even though it is awesome in color if the name is horrible..weird I know.

Please do a tutorial on how to do your painting.. I love it.

I would have a hard time picking just one favorite color...too many to choose from!

  21. Susie, is the Relaxed Khaki a SW paint? Do I just go into their store to get a catalog of their colors? Thanks for your help. Beautiful home!

  22. Susan~~

The comfort gray is perfect. I can see the blueness in it next to the Khaki. Just a perfect shade and goes well in your master too.

  23. My very favorite color is red, but I'm not bold enough to put it on the walls. To tell the truth, I'm a terrible painter, and wouldn't touch them with a paintbrush myself. Actually I have blue in the garden room that I like. Your home looks so tranquil. I read that one of the big trends for 2010 is to do the ceiling.

  24. Relaxed Khaki is my very very very favorite color!!!
We almost bought a farm house and when it didn't work out...I told my husband "we must find out the color they used!" and it was relaxed khaki!! I have used it in 3rooms and accented with different colors in each room and I love every one!
My other new favorite color is blue and I am going to write down the blue you used!
I love love love the ceiling!!
Yeah!!! Can't wait for 2010...I am going to be painting!
    Thanks for the inspiration!!

  25. Walmart has usually been great at matching the Sherwin Williams deck. The only color they've ever messed up on for me is Bracing Blue (the lighter Aleutian was fine). It was very purple when it's definately supposed to be a blue.

    I love your colors!

  26. Susie!

Your colors look GREAT! Just another idea: I always get the pottery barn paint swatch-books. They come out every season and they are great to have around! Restoration Hardware has paint swatch-books too!!! They usually have some great colors and after trying every paint...I really love Behr paint from Home Depot. Its very thick and reasonably priced.
    Love all of your ideas!!!!

  27. i've always painted my ceilings the same color of my walls and i agree..it is calming and softer i think. and i don't have a white wall in my house other than my laundry room. i like the two different colors though...hmmm...i'm wanting to paint the bedroom and maybe we'll have to try that.

  30. I think it's flippin' terrific the way you use colors that speak to you AND to each other. I, too use taupes and blue-greys. My faves are Reflection from Devine Paints (a dead-ringer for Martha Stewart's old Atlantic at K-mart years ago), and Taupe 3 or 4 from Laura Ashley. Goes with everything.

I posted a link to your site in my most recent post....hope you don't mind.

  39. I am using gray and creamy white in a bathroom, with black accents. I love the way gray and cream look together, don't you? And your gray is the perfect one! My husband is a pro painter and will only use Sherwin Williams! I have one of those huge paint sample books they give to pro painters-it's one of my best friends!!

  40. Well, you KNOW I'm a fan of Sherwin Williams...

My house has been many colors- I've loved them all, but my favorite neutral right now is a color called Ivoire. I have had about seven friends copy it because it looks amazing and creamy and soft... sort of a buttery beigey cream color.

I love the color Tupelo Tree for greens too. It's fun and somehow still very neutral.

Ah, paint. What a wonderful thing. All of your rooms look amazing.

  41. I buy all of my paint from SW...a bit more expensive, but very high quality. I love your colors. One of my favorites is Creamy, just above Dover White. I use it for all of my white furniture and trim. Very warm, yet fresh.

  43. Thanks for answering my question, Susie! You're a peach! :) Hopefully you believe that imitation is flattery...because I'll definitely be imitating your color scheme in our new home! :)

  44. love your colors. We painted our ceiling a light beige and the walls blue in our dining room. I love painted ceilings. I'm in too casual comfort in my colors also. I love that my home feels relaxing and calm with natural/neutral colors. Loving your Gray color...might have to save that for our hallway :) thanks

  45. Beautiful colors!

I'd love it if you could do a tutorial on painting. We have an open floor plan, our kitchen flows into our living room which flows into the hall. I want to paint the areas different colors to define the area, but I don't where to stop! And when I do stop, at a corner or whatever, I need help getting a really straight line on my textured walls! Yikes!

  46. I love the color silver sage from Benjamin Moore. It's looks gray or pale sagey green depending on the light. I also love Khaki from Polo. I also LOVE Heirloom White spray paint from American Accents! It is just the right shade of white, a little creamy but not too yellowy or ivory. I painted a little drop leaf table that color and I really love it!

  47. Thank you, Thank you, Thank You, for sharing your colors and insight into the enigma of paint colors. I am so excited to hear I do not have to but the Restoration Hardware paint...it made my heart hurt to spend that much on paint. BTW I love the plaque on your mantel with the names of the Lord. Where did you get it?

  49. I love Relaxed Khaki and Universal Khaki, we have both in our home. It's only been six months since we built so I can't believe I've already forgotten the name of the lovely sage in my living room. My daughter's room is Middlebury Brown and it looks like melted milk chocolate - LOVE it.

  51. Pretty, pretty! Happy New Year! :) My favorite "on the lighter side" neutral paint color is Cream Fleece by Benjamin Moore. It's not too dark or too light (my white trim does pop against it) and it's not too yellow or too pink/red or too gray. I really love it...I've gone a little Cream Fleece crazy in our house. ;) God bless.

  53. I've spent the past two days holed up with my Ben Moore and SW fan decks looking to change my Chesterfield Buff to the perfect shade of..tan..beige..khaki...? My problem? I just HAVE to have a green accent wall and painted backs in my built-ins. I'm in love with BM Split Pea but also enjoy SW Antiquity. Painted trim is SW Decor White. Have you tried a green with the khaki? Must I head in the blue direction?

    Thanks for any thoughts..

  59. Emily in CharlotteJanuary 04, 2010

Oh, I am a lover of Comfort Gray! I have it in my formal LR and DR and our Guest BR, Bath, and our kids' Bath! Do you think it would be overkill if I went ahead and painted it in my Master?! I just might do that! Funny, it's one of the colors that both my man and I agree on! Maybe that's why he doesn't mind painting it all over.

  60. Dover White is the trim color of our entire house. Having the same trim color unites eveything as we redo this entire old place room by room...and this is the 3rd house I have done with this and I am addicted to Dover White. And then, because it matches, it made it's way onto my table, chairs, buffet- you get the picture. I LOVE your house and the relaxing comfortable feel...

  62. I know I'm a little late to post something! But does Relaxed Khaki come out with a hint of green in it? Compared to some of the other tans, the swatch seems to have a bit of green in it. I don't want green so just making sure!!
