It's no secret that blog land has become the mother ship of perfection...
And we all went for that ride.
The average Mommy can now plan a party like a pro.
She can pin it, make it, bake it and write a blog post about it!
But what happens when that blog perfect mommy crashes and burns?
Does she stop enjoying what matters most?
Does she fear the failure of creating magazine worthy parties?
Or...
Does she just take a deep breath and smile?
She knows it's not about the decorations nor the matching cake pops.
Somewhere between planning a party and writing a blog, we find ourselves consumed.
Those days are no longer my friend!
I have once again found the JOY!
I proudly walked the dollar party isle at Wal mart.
Maddy picked out a few favors and we were ready!
Parties past, this girl would have list a mile long.
She would clean like Jesus was on His way and prepare a feast.
Free at last
Free at last
Praise God... I'm free at last!
I passed the torch and need for perfection and Maddy was up for the challenge.
She decorated while I cooked and we just enjoyed the moment.
And if I must be honest here... I didn't scrub tubs nor floors!
That is a first for me y'all.
Can I tell you how freeing letting go feels?
I am learning to turn my stress for the try hard life into Joy!
And
You wanna something that means the most to me?
My kids loved it!
Yesterday, this sweet girl Shelby, turned 23!
She and my oldest have been dating for a few years and I could not love her more.
That's what it's all about folks...
Family.
And next time when you worry about planning a party just remember one thing...
Your kids won't remember the number of comments and likes on your blog.
What they will remember is the love shared on their special day.
oh..and cake. They will remember the cake.
make it a good one!
My new motto for life.
Make memories not blog post.
xo Susie
Thanks for sharing your heart Susie. It sure is freeing , isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMy darling daughter will be 23 next week as well. Happy bday to Shelby!
Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!
DeleteThank you! I am with you on this. It is time to live in the moment. Keep it simple stupid is what I tell myself now!
ReplyDeleteI love your motto! I say we take a stand and demand our lives back...lol. Enjoy what we once loved again.
DeleteLOVED your post...I'm borrowing your motto!
ReplyDeleteLive it girl!
DeleteOh my gosh do I understand this! A few weeks ago we were having people over and I needed to write something on my huge chalkboard (which I love) I was paralyzed over it, so nervous it wouldn't be just right perfect etc, thank god my husband put something adorAble on there without even asking me!!! Never again will I let perfection stop me from just having fun and enjoying things!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!!!
DeleteAs much as I love Pinterest inspiration and beautiful blog posts (we all do), I think in this age of social media and sharing via Instagram there is a lot to live up to. I also find that a lot of bloggers really go the mile to 'stage' even a simple pic on Instagram of a quick bite at a cafe or their work space-flowers perfectly arranged, just the right accessories on the desk, perfectly painted nails grasping a mug handle. Let's be honest...that's just not reality most days. This post came at a great time...I've been thinking a lot about bloggers that used to inspire me that now make me feel less than (part of that is my own issue, part is as I mentioned above). I believe in doing things with excellence, perfectionism is exhausting. I'm looking forward to getting to the other side where I can just 'let things go' as I'm not quite there yet. With a 6-month old baby in tow I'm learning it's just not really possible anymore, some things have got to give. ;)
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking that the other day... I remember when dinner was just oven roasted chicken parts, mashed potatoes and some heated up frozen veggies... I remember when having company over meant tidy up and cook more of whatever I had planned... When did it all start feeling like a competition? I am glad you enjoyed your daughter's big day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Shelby!
ReplyDeleteTwenty-three is a great age.
Luv this!!!! We need to live in the moment.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Shelby. :)
AMEN sister...preach it!!! Family is so much more important than perfection! I took a long time to figure that one out! We have a new "family" that we adopted last year when they moved to Montana from Louisiana and they hang out with us several times a week and they don't care if my house is spotless or not!! So refreshing!! I would rather have friends /fam stop by and we enjoy them than have a perfect house and no one is comfortable there! Your Shelby is adorable!
ReplyDeleteGood call :-)
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you should write about this today, Susie.....after I set something on a counter this afternoon I had to stop and make sure it was all straight and in perfect alignment with each other. After doing this I remember thinking that I've become a bit of a perfectionist lately and why was that? Then I realized it's because I've been reading blogs and surfing Pinterest.... I answered my own question.
ReplyDeleteGlad you've found freedom from perfection and that you had such a sweet time with family.

“Women really dress based on their body shape. For example, Black Bandage Dress I’m very athletic. I have bigger shoulders and bigger bust Herve Leger Dress and smaller in the hip area. So when it comes to Herve Leger, Dirndl Dress for me it’s really about A-line dresses because it gives me a hip but minimizes me on the top.”While there’s no doubt that Lubov and her husband, Max, design for women everywhere, you can’t help but imagine her stamping Halloween costumes a mini-claim on a certain white dress and capelet pair when it was in its early stages. It’s a look we can imagine every woman instantly coveting when it’s available in April.
