What's up?

Momma got a new gig.

Oh yes she did!

A big girl camera.

Problem is...I have no idea what I'm doing just yet.

Thank goodness Maddy is always ready to play model LOL.

My new Camera is a Canon Rebel T3i .

I searched and asked questions forever.

Canon. Nikon? Canon? Nikon.

I picked Canon because it seemed user friendly and my sister has one.

I bought it at Best Buy.

The next day QVC had them on todays special value.
So my luck...hahaha.

Maddy is now the proud owner of my oldie.

It was good to me for many years.

It was a FUJI from Wal Mart.

Maddy could not be happier with her new oldie.

Here is picture of my new Canon below.

Now I just need to figure out what everything does...

And figure out what new lenses I would like.

I do know that I would like a lens that will do a close up well.

Any suggestions?

I'm all ears.

xo Susie

  1. Congratulations! I just got the same camera and fortunately I got it on QVC. Great minds think alike. I found out that several camera companies around town offer classes. They may cost a little if you didn't buy your camera from them but I think it'll be worth it. I need one-on-one teaching. Good luck!

    1. Thanks for the info. I may just ask around and find a local class to take. Let me know if you have any tricks of the trade when you find out about your camera. happy snapping!

  2. Say "no" to auto. It will do great things! Look up things on youtube and Pinterest has tons of places to go to for tips. Good luck!

  3. A good lens for closeups is a macro.
    Darcy over at http://my3boybarians.com/
has a great photography series that covers everything from aperature, to ISO. Don't know what those are?? Go on over and check it out. I also agree with the commenter above:
SAY NO TO AUTO!! You will thank us later.
    Merry Christmas!

    1. Thanks for the tip. I will need to check her out asap!

  4. Susie - That's the same camera I just got a few months ago. I love it!! I got the 75-300 Zoom lens and it is wonderful. Brenda @ Cozy Little House has the Canon and has expert tips on using it that you might want to check out. She tells me to never use flash. I've had to a couple of times because of lack of light but normally I don't use flash. (You probably already know this. Enjoy!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    1. Thanks for sharing what lens you have. I will have to check into that one. It sounds like just the lens I'm looking for. Enjoy your new camera too!

  5. I think you'll fall in love with a prime lens! I love my Canon 50 mm 1.4 prime lens. We bumped up on quality (around $400 so it worked with my T2i and now with me 5D mark 2. At least when you upgrade camera bodies, the lenses can hang around for the ride!

  6. Susie, I know NOTHING about cameras, but one of the other bloggers I follow, http://missmustardseed.com/ Knows SO much about cameras, etc..... Her name is Marion, if you don't already know her. I'm sure she'd be more than happy to help you! Merry Christmas!

    1. Don't you just love Miss Mustard seed!! I met her at Haven and fell in love with her. She is so sweet and full of knowledge on about everything. I may need to just pick her cute little brain sometime soon.

  7. Susie,

Awww, what a wonderful gift. Enjoy that new camera and when I finally get one you can help. LOL

    1. I would love to help you when you get yours. Looks like I had better get my bee'hind in gear and learn some good stuff :)

  8. You will love it! I have the one that came out before this one. I have a Rebel film too. I like Canons because they feel right in my hand. Both Nikons and Canons are awesome. I am a scrapbooker and one of my favorite photographic teachers is Nick Kelsh. He is hilarious and makes things very understandable. He is teaching "manual" classes now online. I subscribe to his daily hints, but you can go to his site and see lots of his lessons and his radio show.

  9. I got that camera too! Tried to use it tonight at gymnastics and failed miserable. Even a good camera can take bad photos if you don't know what you are doing. I'm going to try a class at my local community college.

  10. I'm a newbie camera owner also. I purchased the same camera back in July and love it! Not so much on the kit lense but I bought the 50mm (we call it the nifty fifty). I love it!! Great for close ups and the picture quality is amazing!! Hope this helps..hubby knows way more than me about cameras but I'm learning!

  11. Go to Karen Russell's blog and read what she says about lenses. She was a Canon girl - I have the 1.4 and absolutely love it. Get it from B&H Photo, they have the best prices. Turn off the flash and learn to shoot in manual (AV). Just stick with it and you will be so proud once you take your first few awesome shots. Call me and I will walk you through some stuff. Her class is awesome (for dummies like me) but there is a waiting list.

  12. so I have a nikon but when I took a camera class at the local comm college the instructor had a canon. learn to shoot in manuel. the book we used was Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson its about $25.00. I also study pinterest and mul blogs like MMS and Funkyjunkinteriors. lots of tips there. But mostly the class helped me hands on and he made us streatch brought it all together. so easier softer way was the class .Also there is are many online classes ie Shoot fly shoot. Good luck ;)

  13. Hey Susie! We just purchased a few lenses from Amazon for Christmas. They might not be the highest quality avaiable, but when you want multiple lenses and you are on a budget, they will work. (all of them were priced under $25 & some even have free shipping) Merry Christmas from Tallahasee, Florida.

  14. You can also rent lenses to try before you buy. A good lens is priceless. (And will last forever if you keep buying Canon bodies.)

  15. I really loved reading your blog. I also found your posts very interesting. In fact after reading, I had to go show it to my friend and he ejoyed it as well!
