Just a little sneak peek ;)
I left ya'll with this image below. A dismembered bed..EEK
A few of you shared your concern and even thought I may be sorry later.
Nope.
The bed was old and a post was broken so no love loss here.
In fact, my husband now tells me he hated those post.
They always seemed to get in his way of the TV.
You're welcome sweetie :)
I didn't have a plan past the post amputation.
All I knew was I wanted a modern suite looking room.
So I started with boxing the headboard in.
I measured once and cut... x'3
till it was just right.
I then screwed in L brackets to give it more stability.
Here is a view from the backside.
This will be up against the wall so no worries here.
I used foam that I purchased from Wal Mart.
It holds up better than the batting I find.
I used a staple gun along the backside.
For the fabric, I knew I needed something durable.
I wanted a linen look minus the price.
Drop Cloths...how I love thee!
It works so well for projects such as this.
Missy and I draped it over my foam board and folded the corners over.
Stapled... :)
I then drew a staright line where I wanted my nail trim to go.
You can buy the trim that comes in a roll
but
I didn't want to wait so I am went old school.
one. at. a. time.....forever..
I may just be finished for Christmas...ha!
No..really. This is a long process.
Buy the trim by the roll.
Trust me!
Not to mention I bought all that Lowes had so. I. wait.
Patience...I'm working on that one ;)
Thank goodness my sister is always near to keep me busy.
xoxo Susie~

Looking good! I can't wait to see your finished product.
ReplyDeleteThis is looking FABULOUS! Brilliant design idea using the old headboard for the frame. Can't wait to see the finished result!
ReplyDeleteWow ... I'm impressed! Two things that I like about yours vs. other DIY headboards I've seen: the fact that it's a box so the edges are nice and crisp and the foam idea, which I think is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that's a drop cloth. That is so amazing! Hurry up and hammer. I can't wait to see it finished.
oh my goodness- its looking great! You are brave to to the 1-at-a-time nail heads. I would go bonkers trying to do that- plus keeping them in a straight line- I cant even draw a straight line with a ruler!
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see it all finished
Amazing . . . I want one now too . . . I can't believe the drop cloth looks like that. Really? Looking forward to seeing the finish!
ReplyDeleteSmart to use a drop cloth! Plus no seams. Genius. I did the same thing with upholstery tacks for a headboard...never again. They have a mind of their own don't they? I can tell it is going to be a fantastic looking headboard.
ReplyDeleteIt might take alot of work but you are just going to love it-I already think it looks ten times better then the old bed! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI have making one of these on my agenda. I will take your advice about buying the roll of tacks! It looks great so far...I love how you used your old headboard and built around it!
ReplyDeleteSusie,
ReplyDeleteHow are you going to get the nailheads to stay in place? Are u just pushing them into the foam?
That is so funny....our headboards are twins :)
ReplyDeleteWe made a headboard 7 or 8 years ago by covering a sheet of plywood with batting and fabric, and I recently updated it with a dropcloth and upholstery tacks!
Your corners are SO nice though - makes me want to redo mine! Good luck with the rest of the tacks....aren't they a pain to place in a very straight line?
I'm very impressed with your makeover of that original headboard!!
It's awesome and exactly what I want in both of our guest bedrooms, one of which has an old brass headboard and the other has nothing at all. Can you tell us how much this cost to make?
ReplyDeleteHi there! I'm coming over from your sister's blog (she linked up to our Inspiration Friday party) and had to tell you how much I LOVE the headboard you are making! It looks so gorgeous and definitely luxury-hotel-suite-ish. :-) We are sisters who blog together and it is so fun to connect with other blogging sisters!

P.S. Following you now!
I can't wait to see the end result- I can already tell it will be stunning! I so wish I could do something like that to our bed. I hated that thing before we even bought it!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say....awesome!
ReplyDeleteCan not wait to see results! Are you using the same bed linens you had on your four poster bed or does this call for something new??
this is stunning....i love those drop cloths. who knew they could end up being so versatile
ReplyDeletedrop cloths...I love them. Looks good as a covered headboard!!! I used them last year for my son's outside engagement party...I wanted the long farmhouse table look and they worked perfectly for the natural to the floor rustic tablecloth... also good for slipcovers.
ReplyDeleteDrop cloth never looked better! It beautiful. Your husband sounds like mine, it's always after the fact that he tells me something like that too! Can't wait to see the finished bed!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
WOW! What a project...love what your doing and I can't wait to see it finished. I've always been worried that my nail head trim wouldn't turn out straight so I've never attempted this...yet.
