Who's Judging Who?

I didn't think I would really get into American Idol this year.

Other than the fact that my cousin made it to Hollywood from New Orleans. Yay!!!

I was not that jazzed about the judges.

Being honest here...

I was not a real big fan of Steven.

Oh ..I don't know why. Maybe his music was not my taste.

Maybe his lifestyle was a bit too crazy.

I don't really know other than I judged him.

Hard.

Lesson learned here for me...

It's not my job to judge.

I'm really starting to like the guy :)

You would have thought I would have learned my lesson by now after meeting this guy.

So what would you think?

You know... if you were to pass him on the street.

Homeless?

Try again.

He is a very well known Duck hunter in our area.

"The Duck Commander"

Some of you may have heard of him.

He's BIG!

Long story short..
I took my son to hear him speak about hunting and had already "judged" him.
Shame on me. Turned out he is one awesome hunter and a really great guy.
His sport is hunting but his passion is sharing the gospel.

Ummm..  Boy did I learn a lot that day.

Judges. The worlds full of em.

I've resigned.

The pay stunk anyway... :)

  2. I have to admit, I was a bit weary of the American Idol judges as well(I LOVE THE SHOW)but everytime we've watched it this season, I've been so pleased with how much more positive this season seems to be. I feel like they're straying away from all the horrid performers and focusing more on the good ones. I love it! The judges seem to have a great time together too. Congrats to your cousin! That's awesome :)

  3. What a fantastic word that God gave you to share with us today. I so appreciate when someone humbles themself and shares a shortcoming of some sort so that we can all learn from it. Thank you and thank God for His teachings.

  9. I believe you can always learn something from someone and not to judge the book by it's cover, you just never know! Great post~
I think Steven Tyler is very sweet even though his past was so wild , he does have a heart and I love his daughter Liv.~Cheers Kim

  12. Oh, Susieness, you've spoke to my heart today. One of my biggest faults is being judgmental! I know I do that and I hate it! I pray each day God will help me in this area!
Now, I don't know much about Steve Tyler but I've always thought he and Mick Jagger must be cousins with those big ole mouths. :) Just sayin...
    Be a sweetie,

  13. Beautiful post! I have heard alot of people say the same thing about
Steven Tyler...."they like him more than they thought they would"!!

  14. Oh Susie,
I am with you on that.....I never cared one bit for Steven Tyler....until American Idol.
Last night pushed me over the edge and I was crying like a baby when I saw and FELT his compassion for the last contestant who brought his fiancée in to meet them. How Steven bent down to hug her and talk to her.
You are so right, you truly cannot judge a book by it's cover.
Hugs to you my friend, Amy (Mom to the Four Sisters and a humbler Mom too)

  15. Susie, I am always so inspired every time I visit you. Not only do I love your projects and decorating ideas, but how you write about life. Thanks for being such a nice place to land.

  16. Well said. I was wondering who the new American Idol judges were. Without TV you don't always know these things.

  18. Girl, let me tell ya...I wasn't so sure about Steven Tyler either, but last night after I saw him with the girl who had been in the accident...oh my goodness! I was in tears and I thought how great he was with her! Congrats to your cousin!

  19. Great post, Susie...I've learned so much over the past few years that what I think looks bad (or good, for that matter) is not necessarily what's on the inside!

  20. Great post indeed! I believe many of us were a bit leary on what to expect with the new judges and I am so pleasantly surprised too. I think I like it even more now than before.Steve is adorable and so compassionate.

  21. I LOVE Steven Tyler! I even like some of his music.

But I'm so guilty of "judging a book by it's cover" and I've tried to be more careful about not judging at all.

    Thanks for the reminder.

  22. Susie ... we may know a mutual friend! My cousin and best friend in the world lives in West Monroe, LA, and I have heard ALL ABOUT the awesome Duck Commander. She is very involved with CR in that area. Her name is Lesa Rhodes. Even if you do not know her, what a small world, huh?

  23. I also wasn't very thrilled about the judges (nobody can replace the infamous Simon), but I gotta say, Steven Tyler is a HUGE hit, he's hilarious to say the least. I love his, I loved it, but I don't think its right for this competition thing he has going. I am also enjoying JLo better than Paula...definitely. She seems more real to me than Paula.
I think that a lot of people "judge" even without meaning to. I try really hard not to, but I think it happens to everyone. Every now and then, we just need the reminder! =) Thank you for reminding ME, and thank you for your post!

  25. "I LOVE Steven, always loved Aerosmith, mad skills!!!!" I am watching because he IS on. His personality delights me. His smile is infectious! You rarely see him give an interview where he isn't smiling or laughing the whole time. Every time I see him, I heart him more. He has always seemed so kind and seems to root for everybody. I can imagine if you sat and had lunch with him you would walk away feeling good about yourself. Aren't those the people we should be hanging out with, lol.

I’m glad you see his goodness. I am glad you are starting to like him. Great post!!

    woohoo!

We all judge to a degree, so thank-you for the reminder to just not.

  29. I love that you posted this! I have LONG, LONG been a fan of Aerosmith and especially of Steven Tyler himself - however, not a fan of all things that come with the life of a rock star. Still, I admire his talent and then some...
I am so excited to have an opportunity to see how he really interacts with the public. To me, he is already like everyone's Dad on the show! Simon? Well, he wasn't and I do not miss his crass behavior, we'll just say that.
I'm glad to hear you (and so many others!) are changing your feelings about Steven. Thanks for being so REAL! :-)
    And congrats to your cousin!

  30. Excellent post. Did you notice how Steven leaned over to Randy tonight and said, "Don't tell them that they're bad, man." He always tells them that they just need to practice a bit more. Jennifer? I am not really sure about my thoughts on her. I guess I don't like it when they laugh at the contestants, yet I'm not sitting there all day long, day after day, listening to some of the horrible singers like they do.

  31. I think I have a little crush on Steven Tyler. Those are words that I never thought I'd say, let alone type. He's totally won me over on Idol. It's a sweet surprise. I'm loving this season so far. I'll be looking for your cousin in Hollywooooood!
    Hugs,

  32. Such a good post! This is so timely for me, because recently I discovered/or admitted that I can be really judgmental. And I DON'T LIKE IT!!!

Thank you...so glad that we have the grace of God!!!

  33. AMEN Susie!! I keep resigning too but they keep calling me back. UGH!

  34. Amen! I have always liked Steven Tyler and appreciate his candor in dealing with addiction. He's flawed just like all of us! I love this lesson. I felt so judged today by some ladies this morning at an event that was supposed to be great fellowship. I reminded myself that I shouldn't let one or two bad seeds ruin my day. I have nobody to answer to but Him. :)

  35. I don't watch Idol, but I watched part of the episode on YouTube showing the fellow whose fiance was in an accident. When I saw Steven (who I don't know at all), I had the same reaction, thinking "Yuck!"
But you're so right about judging...!
The Duck Commander spoke at our church fairly recently, & I also don't know anything about him. But my SIL is a big hunter & he was so excited, as were several other guys at church. He drew a huge crowd & lots of them were not believers. So it's a good reminder that God uses all kinds of people to draw others to Himself.

  36. Cute post! I think we're all conditioned to what we think "normal" looks like. It's good to get a reminder that our Creator is just that, creative!

  37. I am in agreement with you when it came to judging Steven. He won me over when he went up to one of the contestants girlfriend who was in the car accident and just hugged her, and kissed her and told her how beautiful she was. Melted my heart. Good luck to your cousin, how exciting.

  38. Isn't it the truth. We are quick to judge, but hate to be judged! Good reminder, thanks

  39. Susie, I read almost every post you write. . . and I love them. . . but I think this one may be your very best.

Wow. "I've resigned. The pay stunk anyway."

Ain't it the truth? Maybe we could start an online club: Retired Judges Club. RJC.

My first two initials are R.J. for Richella Jo. Maybe I should change that to Retired Judge! :)
