Living in the Deep South has it's advantages.
We have ferns that grow like crazy due to our wonderful humidity.
We can grow just about anything due to the wonderful
afternoon showers!
We can have carport campout's
year round almost.
I'm blessed to share my yard with these beauties!
Draped in moss... oh my!
English Ivy loves this tree... as does the poison ivy...
I try to keep a lovin' distance
if you know what I mean :)
I guess I am just pure de' blessed to live here
but...
You knew a but was a coming...
With all of the Sounthern Living at it's finest
we have Critters!
Big and small
Furry.
Fuzzy.
Creepy crawly...
Critters!
This is what Marc and I will be up too this weekend.
Can you guess?
Now to keep you really guessing...
See this trail in my back yard?
It leads to something fun.
Messy but fun.
As soon as we finish cleaning up the crawlies
I will take you on trail ride....
xoxox Susie
I LOVE your yard! I miss the south and can't wait to get back some day! Have fun with the critters! :)
ReplyDeleteI too, love your yard. We love live oaks and the moss hanging from them. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe also know about all the creepy crawlies. It looks like you will be doing some power washing to get rid of them.
Have a great weekend.
Oh my word.. those trees are to die for. I wish we had trees like that around here. Just goregous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures....love the hanging moss!!
ReplyDeleteWhen you get the chance and your not after fuzzy creepy crawling things I am having a great giveaway you just might want to check out. Promise no creepy crawling things. :o)

ReplyDeleteIt must be a place to mud bog on 4 wheelers? I was looking at the big old oaks that surround our house, and feeling blessed to have those stately giants still here. Don't work too hard. Jackie
ReplyDeleteYeah, we have all the creepy crawly's here in Houston too...YUCK! Can't wait to see where you're taking us next.
ReplyDeleteHugs~

HATE the bugs we have to deal with in the South. We put up with mosquitos & forced to smell like bug spray for most of the year. We do have sweet tea, honeysuckle & front porches. Maybe the humidity is wort it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know what you mean about the creepy crawly things and ALL the critters!!! I posted about our critters today. I love those moss draped trees and the hydrangeas are FABULOUS!! I am having to water my hydrangeas twice a day already.....otherwise in the late afternoon they are all drooped over withering away. I wish we had a rain shower during the day to keep everything watered. We really need it. We are supposed to hit about 101 degrees on Saturday. WAY toooooo HOT already!
ReplyDeleteI l.o.v.e your trees. I asked my mom (she lives in NOLA) to send me some Spanish moss to put on my big tree here in San Diego. I think it might not last too long in the dry heat though : /
ReplyDeleteeverything is so lush, gorgeous and beautiful...but the creepy crawlies would kill me.
ReplyDeleteYour trees, yard & hydrangeas are gorgeous. I'm so homesick for the South I could cry. Can't wait to get back home. OK...the amazing amount of critters is one thing I don't miss. Water/Palmetto bugs are the worst to me, though. Ewwwww...especially the ones with wings.
ReplyDeleteI guess a pond/swamp... hahaha...
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangeas are amazing and I LOVE the Spanish moss - makes me very homesick for a visit to NOLA. Not to mention the thought of a big 'ole bowl of gumbo and some French bread - yum-o!
ReplyDeleteWe used to have "Creepie" issues too, but someone told us to paint our outdoor ceilings a light sky blue and it would trick the bugs into not nesting there. So we tried it and IT WORKED!!!! That was 3 years ago. My momma in Lafayette painted her's the following year. Now that doesn't mean the creepie crawlies won't still come around, but at least they aren't making homes in my carport and porch anymore.
ReplyDeleteYour fountain is gorgeous!
We have those same creepy crawly's here up North! My son just finished power washing today~ It sure feels good to get it done for the summer!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well Susie, I've been so busy with family I haven't had the time to visit many bloggers lately! I'm going to go catch up on some of your wonderful posts!
Robin~♥
Beautiful! I certainly envy those trees--so gorgeous. We just have a lot of Palmettos, hehe.
ReplyDeletePS--I want to steal your hydrangeas!
Susie, you should frame the photos of those trees! Really, I love them! I have some creepies of my own. Rats in my lovely backyard, newly renovated, no less. Horrid!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Can't wait to see where the trail leads.
ReplyDeleteI'm a midwestern girl with a mom from Louisiana - your post makes me want to hop in the car for a visit to my aunt & cousins!
ReplyDeleteOh my Susie, your garden is gorgoeus! I love your hydrangeas and those gorgeous trees! I can't wait to see what is at the end of your garden path. Hope you have a lovely weekend my friend ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeletegirl! you know i love your backyard! actually i am pretty envious!!! we have the same bug "decor"! i was wondering how we could remove them without removing our stucco! got any ideas? xo
ReplyDeleteOh how I love those trees dripping in moss. That IS Southern Living. I'm jealous!!!
ReplyDeletethose trees covered in moss are beautiful! curious about you're up to! enjoy the weekend! Susan
ReplyDeleteYou have offically made me homesick for the south. Lord have mercy, I miss the south!
ReplyDeleteAre those "dirt dobbers" ? We have those here. We power-washed our front porch a week ago and it could use it again....thanks mostly to spiders and the yellow lab shedding!
ReplyDeleteLove all those trees. We lived in New Orleans years ago (Kelly was in K-1st grade there) and EVERYTHING grew beautifully there! I love the lushness!
The trees and moss brings back many of childhood memories. We had a couple of large oaks in our back yard and they were covered in moss. Of course we would pull the moss down, make piles and jump in it. We were always covered in bug bites but we didn't care.
ReplyDeletexo, Sherry
those trees in your yard are amazing! loooooove them!
ReplyDeleteEveryone has critters Suzie Q. Just different sizes and shapes! When I lived in Franklin Lakes (where Housewives of NJ is filmed) we had bears in the back yard!
ReplyDeleteYour yard is beautiful. The moss covered trees reminds me of Savannah.
Your Friend,
Deborah
I can't imagine living anywhere but the South, crawly things and all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful landscape! Yikes on the wasps nests. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWhat a truely beautiful place to live. Thank you for sharing such gorgeous pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful part of the world you live in, such fantastic trees. WHAT are those bugs?! You say furry?? We don't do furry bugs here in France, so I'm fascinated. But it still hasn't put me off wanting to come visit the south!
ReplyDeleteSharon
OHHH I can't wait to see what's around the bend! We have thought about moving to the South for a while. I have had my 4th spine surgery 4 weeks ago and if it doesn't work we will definitly consider it!...but the creepy crawlies I would not look forward too!
ReplyDeleteFunny story! WE LOVE WDW and even Honeymooned there. We got to the Polynesian on our Honeymoon like at 1 AM and there was only one other person checking in. I HUGE palmetto bug (IE: BIG ROACH) crawled out of a planter and into this lady's luggage like in a second. I tried to tell her and she totally didn't know what I was talking about~! What a horrible surprise that had to be when she unpacked! AHHHHH
Oh, Ms. Susie, I know about all the little critters in Spanish moss. A few years back I went with my parents on a mini road trip to St. Francisville and my mom decided to bring back some moss with her. She tied it up in plastic grocery bags and tossed it in the back of the car. Well about halfway home I started feeling a little tickle on my neck. I turned around a 5 GIANT spiders were crawling out of the bags and onto ME! AHH! It was a very traumatic experience to say the least.
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking photos, Susie! Living in the south does rule! I wish we had spanish moss up this way like y'all do - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend!
EWWW what is that? I love your yard and can't wait to someday visit the south! Yesterday I had a bunch of bees fly into the home and a bird :) Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteXO

Love your trees, Susie. And we have issues too with critters. Living in the country has it's benefits but the spiders, mice, and bugs are just too much! Cannot wait to see where the trail leads.......
ReplyDeleteAh yes, critters. One of the things I really DONT miss about living back East is the bugs. Mosquitos especially. But I know we had nothing compared to the South. Good luck with your project this weekend! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what the trail leads to. What fun!
ReplyDeleteThe creepy crawlies on the other hand I can do without. We have had so much rain and then it has turned humid and hot here in the Northeast and we have many more creepy crawlies than usual. I am not thrilled.
How exactly do you get rid of them? Is is with the bleach you pictured or am I all wrong?
Ruth
I love a huge live oak! Makes me feel safe. And those hydrangeas, gorgeous! I love living in the south although AR is a different kind of south then LA :).

ReplyDeleteLove the trees! We're growing ivy as ground cover in a certain area in our yard. It's started climbing the trees and we're wondering if we should let them climb or trim them. After seeing your beautiful ivy covered trees, I think we will let the ivy continue to climb. :-)
ReplyDeletePoison Ivy - just had my first dose at 56 - I do not like it sam I am I do not like it! Jennifer - great post! Jennifer jennsthreegraces
ReplyDeleteyep we have those little budders also....just took some down ourself...so your little trail does it head down to the fishing hole or creek...we have one of those also. Love me some southern living but wish the humidity would be a little easy.

ReplyDeleteCan I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
