My name is Susie...I am...

My name is Susie Harris...I'm a closet decorator.I have been for years. It all started when I was child. My birthday is in December and my Mom always thought it was sweet to celebrate my birthday and decorate our home for Christmas on the same day. Don't get me wrong, she did have presents and a cake waiting for me but I just didn't like waiting so late to start Christmas. Hence....the need to decorate early. I try and hide it...really I do. I start slow...sneaking boxes into the house. Playing Christmas movies and music while no one is watching. I hang out with friends that share my passion. I'm always on edge till someone else in the neighborhood falls off the wagon. You know..friends don't let friends decorate alone. Today after church my family of five went to see a movie...The Christmas Carol in 3-D. My name is Susie ... I love Christmas!

  2. What an inspiring box of decor! I just finally admitted to myself last week that I am addicted to turquoise! :)
    Have a great week, Susie!

  3. My birthday is Dec.23, and my mom did the same thing to me. The tree never went up until the night of my birthday. I love Christmas too much to wait that long...and have already started watching Christmas movies :)

  4. My stuff has been out since Nov. 1. :-) I figure it gives me plenty of time to get everything just right and eliminates the stress of trying to rush to get it up and lets me remember what Christmas is really all about.

  5. Join me up for your little club as well - I've always loved Christmas. I do try to wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving to decorate but it's so hard. I'm also loving the commercials & music I hear in stores now. Ooooo, it won't be long.

  6. sssshhhh...don't tell anyone Susie, but I am working on my first Christmas 2009 tablescape, even as I prepare for our getaway! I can't resist. Of course, this table setting will mean a trip to the Christmas "room", in the basement. Ya know....all those little extras are needed.

The colors in the photo caught my eye. It reminds me of our dining room tree.

  9. Susie, I feel the same way! I have been wanting to sneak out my Christmas but had my hands full with my boutique, then I got on my facebook and everyone I know put their tree up this past weekend...whew I'm not the first to fall off the wagon (that always feels good). We will be putting our tree up this weekend and I can't wait. My kids love the eggnog and snack night that goes along with it and we will be going to see The Christmas Carol on Sunday, I can hardly wait!!!!!

  10. I love it too! I've been listening to Christmas music with the kids since before halloween :)

  11. Susie Bloop you are too cute!
The 700 Club wants us to start compiling Christmas ideas for our second segment, so I guess I better start thinking about it too!

  12. Hi Susie!! I get so frustrated because my family tradition growing up was to put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving, but my husband's family tradition was to go cut down a tree (at a tree farm) about 2 weeks before Christmas. I love the family tradition of cutting down the tree. And we go with my in-laws, and the hubby's brother and his family, so it is really an event. I just wish they would go earlier. I have been able to wheedle them into going about a week or so earlier...but it still isn't early enough to me. sigh. At least all of my other decorations are up right after Thanksgiving. ;-)

  13. I love coming home from Thanksgiving (we go out of town) to my home already decorated for Christmas. I always start decorating mid-Nov. :)

  14. We will decorate the week of Thanksgiving. That's about as early as we get. Just out of curiosity, if you put your stuff out so early, when do you take it down? Do you wait until after New Years?

  15. "I'm always on edge till someone else in the neighborhood falls off the wagon. You know..friends don't let friends decorate alone."

This made me laugh. Thank you!

  16. I love Christmas, but I also really love Thanksgiving and feel like it is the unappreciated sister of the years.

  17. Have fun decorating!! I can't wait to go see that movie...it looks GREAT!

  18. How do you do? My name is Sue, and I am a closet holiday decorator right this very day! I have company coming for dinner this weekend, and I don't want them to see what I'm doing. It's so frustrating. I guess I'll start working in the rooms I know they won't see- who takes people in the study and the upstairs hall?- not me. But I really want to be working on downstairs..... AAAACCCKKKK.....
So, I know your pain. Should we be in some kind of "anonymous" club of some kind? *big grin*

  19. Cute post. Christmas and Easter are my fave holidays. I usually don't decorate for Thanksgiving I start right into Christmas. I can't to see your decorations if they are anything like the pic in your post. Love the blue and white.

Honey let the wagon go on it's way...I'm on my way over to your house to help decorate...then we can fly back to California and do mine!
Yipeee a decorating bonanza! We'll take pictures and post them!

  25. Ditto for me! I also try to wait until the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but the plans are already swirling in my head.

Enjoy your little obsession. It brings such joy and inspiration to all of us!

    Happy Monday to you. :-)

  27. Susie: You are not alone! PLUS I have a confession to make!!

My mantle is already decorated!! I did it Saturday during the Alabama/LSU game!! I was so nervous my creative juices got the best of me!

I told my girlfriend I did it and she rolled her eyes at me!

    Imagine!

  28. You're too funny :) I spoke with my mom on the telephone today, and she told me she had their outside Christmas lights up. I asked if she was waiting to light them until after Thanksgiving. She acted confused and said something like, "Well, of course not - I lit them last night!" :) So, you're not alone.

I **love** Thanksgiving - it's possibly my favorite holiday, so I like to focus on it all through November. I can see, though, how those who may not like Thanksgiving as much might be get really itchy decor fingers right about now :)

  29. Hi Susie!
I am with you. I have been shopping and shopping for Christmas decor! My favorite part of Christmas is the lights and the decor. I usually put everything out Thanksgiving weekend. I would love to start earlier but my family thinks it too early. Can't wait to see all of your Christmas pretties :)

  30. Me too Susie! The only thing holding me back this year is everything was put in a storage unit until we are done with construction! Otherwise it would be creeping upstairs already!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shhh...I'm that way too! We actually put our tree up on Thanksgiving afternoon after the dishes are done. I just love Christmas. Hope you're doing well Dear One.
    Be a sweetie,

  32. Our family tradition is to decorate the day after Thanksgiving. My husband thinks that is too early but it is what we did when I was growing up and it has stuck with me.

Happy decorating Susie! Post some pictures! :)

  33. Me too! I warned my adult kids yesterday that when they next come over, they will start seeing Christmas decorations and there is to be no teasing that I'm a Christmas freak...even though I am.

  34. I seriously take inventory and go through my boxes before Halloween just to begin working on any projects I can think of... no judgment here girl!! :)

  36. oooo! Me too!! I'm glad I am not the only one!

  37. Beautiful photo, Susie. My Christmas tree is definitely my favorite part of holiday decorating... and I always try to do it all by myself. When my daughter was young, I would let her help, but if I moved anything after she had placed it, she'd have a fit! So I did my best to resist that urge or... decorate the tree while she was at school so she'd come home to a surprise! (which I realize was just my way of justifying my Christamas tree control freakishness) Don't worry, she got to help with plenty of other holiday fun!

  38. I am a Thanksgiving baby (literally, born on Thanksgiving day) so I try not to decorate for Christmas too much before then. I do, however, start staging the decorations in the basement. That helps to scratch the itch a little :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love Christmas too! This year especially. My shopping is almost done, and I can't wait to get a tree, turn on the Christmas music and wrap the presents!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Loooooove those decorations! I have the same white snowflakes. :)

I decorate for Christmas the very second that Thanksgiving is over (or when we get back from celebrating it in TN), but I make myself wait so I can have something to look forward to...I just can't help but feel like I'm cheating Thanksgiving if I get Christmas out any earlier. This way, I give Thanksgiving and Christmas equal opportunity. ;)

Natalie's bday is Dec. 6th, and it's hard to blend bday and Christmas sometimes. :)

Was The Christmas Carol too scary for a 3/almost 4 year old?? I'd love to take Natalie, but not sure if it would be over her head....

  41. You crack me up, girlfriend! Make sure to hop over to my post!

And, I have those snowflakes in a fun green that dangle from my chandelier!!

  42. Great post! My daughter was home this past weekend & started decorating ... I've definitely passed the Christmas gene onto her. Our familyroom is now filled with nutcrackers and glitter :-)
And The Christmas Carol is a family favourite ~never seen it in 3-D!

  43. I was listening to holiday music a few days before Halloween. And I always have a Christmas in July, complete with sugar cookies, watching "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life," and my fave CDs. Doesn't it feel great to be out in the open now?! :)

  49. You must be related to my mom. She LOVES Christmas. I must say that this year I am skipping it. We just closed on our house and this move has done me in. My son will do a 'Snoopy' tree and we will call it a day:) I will enjoy it through your photos!

  53. LOL, Susie. I'm normally like you, unable to wait for the decorating to begin. Wouldn't you know it, last year i had the flu the first two weeks of December. Poor DH had to make me decorate the tree. It was awful! This year I'm really chomping at the bit!

HAHAHAHA! I need friend to get me motivated. I've been so busy with tasseling that I didn't even get my fall stuff out of the bin. Out of the attic, yes, but not out of the bin. And now it's time to bring out the Christmas stuff! I'll have to get Sound Man to drag my Christmas stuff out as he's putting my unopened autumn stuff up! : )

  60. How can i carry away windows xp from my laptop and reinstall windows Me -the laptops first software?
I suffer with recently bought a used laptop that is old. The mortal physically I had bought it from had installed windows xp on it, indeed for all that it from the word go came with windows Me. I fall short of to oust the windows xp because it runs slows on the laptop because it takes up more tribute than the windows Me would. Also I need to transfer windows xp because it is an forbidden copy. So when I tried to run updates on it, windows would not set up updates because the windows xp is not genuine.
