History in the making...

I wanted to start this post out by telling you I have never built a thing in my life. You know nails and glue and real wood. I did build a doll house once. Does that count? Anyway , I just wanted you to know that if I can build it I know anyone can!

I started out with a piece of bead board,moulding,and a piece of pine. You dont have to worry about the size because you can cut everything to fit just right.

I used the pine boards that I use for my name signs. I measured my moulding and drew a line at the top of the board.

I cut my bead board to fit leaving that space above the line for my moulding.

Glued down with wood glue and some very small finishing nails.

It should then look kind of like this.

You will need a strip of old wood to top your coat rack off. I just used one of my cypress fence planks but you can use any scrap you may have.

It should look like this. Here I just used an old scrap.

I then wedged my moulding {with glue} into that space and used a few small nails to hold it in good and tight.

You may have a tiny crack like this..

No worries girls! Just get your gun and...

caulk it up!


Now that you have your coat rack built you will need to decide on your paint color. I wanted this one to look very old and worn so I found some neat historical colors.

I cannot seem to get enough of this vintage blue and red.

Dont worry about getting too deep into the cracks or covering every inch because we will sand a good portion of it off.

I know it looks like a lot of work but believe me, it was so worth it!

I find myself just staring at it with a huge sense of pride. You know..nails and wood glue,saws and sanders are not just for boys anymore!

I hope if you love this idea you will give it a try. Just remember it's supposed to look old an worn so that free's up any perfection fears you may have. Put your stamp on it..make it your own..make some history! {and have fun}~
