I could not resist a moment longer! I had to show you the after before the before. This... my friends... is a DYI dream kitchen...

You may remember that I painted and glazed my cabinets. I loved them but after some time I began to long for a clean crisp feel. So the journey began...I removed the doors from two of the cabinets

I have a room full of cabinets but decided on opening up only two. Way too much junk in my trunk if you know what I mean. I brought the cabinets to a friend {just so happens he owns a woodworking shop} to have a notch put in. You can do this at home if you have the tools. I did not....thank you Lord for friends!

This is what they looked like just an hour later! A bit scary at this point. Praying hard I did not just screw up my entire kitchen

I then painted the inside of the cabinets..

I then brought my cabinet doors to a glass shop and had them cut two pieces for me. Remember before you install your glass...paint the door! Trust me on this one. You do not want raw wood showing behind your glass.

I glued my glass in with a clear silicon.

Goop will come out but don't fret because once it dries it peels right off. Let it dry over night and then you are ready to go!

I think having glass doors just made my kitchen two sizes bigger!

I only wish I had done this years ago...

What stopped me?

Fear ...

Fear of messing up!

I have a new way of looking at things now...

You just never know till you give it a try.

I'm so glad I didn't let fear stand in my way a moment longer! Is fear stopping you from a project? I hope this post inspires the socks off of you and your project becomes reality!

I've written to you about my fear of painting my cabinets...it may just be a project for September! And I love it without the glaze - I like it with a more crisp look myself. As always, I love it.
ReplyDeleteSusie~ Your cabinets are absolutely gorgeous!! Love, Love, Love them!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to do this but I'm scared!! I guess the worst that could happen is that I'd have to buy a new door.
ReplyDeleteOh Susie, your cabinets are just fantastic! I love everything about it. YEt another job well done!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Miz Susie,
ReplyDeleteWow Girlfriend! Wow! I thought the glazed cabinets were beautiful but look at you! You're already repainting AND you glassed your door! That door looks amazing Susie, really beautiful. Now your kitchen which was gorgeous before just got that little something extra that took it beyond gorgeous! I'm thrilled you have a such a lovely kitchen(& home) that reflects your sweet creative spirit.
I love this look and really, you made it so easy. This should not stop anyone. My drawback is I have so much stashed in my cupboard that it would require a major clean out and I'm just not ready to tackle that. hahaha Sea Witch
ReplyDeletelooking good. Sorry bout the shed comment, nothing like a little drama to lightin up blogland, girl you know ya gonna get me a bunch of haters...
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful. I agree they make the kitchen look bigger and you have a place to show off all your adorable dishes. I don't know about the shed comment...but I love the new building. You are a genius, I love that floor!!!!! And I love the table, it has got me to thinking!
ReplyDeleteI am very partial to the crisp white look too.
ReplyDeleteI also for years wanted to cut out some cabinets and put in chicken wire , I don't know what held me back either .
Your glass door look great and so open and reflective too , gorgeous.

Always on the cutting edge there Susieq.. in 2004 or so Lynette Jennings did a remake on a kitchen that did something like this yet she went one step further using a faux leading tape to give the gave a lead glass feel and reality. Hubby an I were in the middle of a redo in our kitchen, all came to a halt until the order from http://www.vandykes.com/product/cg140005/traditional-lead-tape-1-4-x-33- came in .. holy cow, what a difference it made to the cabinets and our kitchen sold the our home 3 years ago.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the grand work susie~!! love it.
Wow, that is an amazing transformation.
ReplyDeleteSusie, it looks great! I've always loved a few glass fronted cabinets in a kitchen. I think it really opens up the space!
ReplyDeleteManuela
Yep, fear is stopping me. HAHA. Seriously though, hubby's job has us move every 2-4 years and to have our house resalable....is that a word??? we have to keep things neutral. So, I haven't gone hog wild with my ideas...but one day, when we stay put, I WILL!
ReplyDeleteI love how the glass fronts just open up the kitchen.
LOL at you about junk in the trunk. I think we all have that messy cabinet...maybe one or two or more, but it's nice to have a few that look like the ones you just redid. Great job!
They turned out great. I love the look of glass cabinets.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Friday.
Love this... Your kitchen is beautiful. You did a great job... Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDelete~Whitney
Your cabinets look gorgeous! I have an area in my kitchen that could use this makeover. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI have mentioned to the hubby that I wanted to do this to a coulple of our cabinets and he just looks at me with that vacant look that men tend to get (and I swear I hear cricketts when he does it!!).
ReplyDeleteJust lovely!!
Oooohh la la..girl, I love it!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
I love them. (BTW....I'm Jenny's Momma)
ReplyDeleteLove it Love it!!!! Suzie great job they look wonderful have a great weekend
ReplyDeletejulie
Look great. I'm in the early stages of a mini kitchen redo myself and I'm planning to open up one cabinet with seeded glass in the doors. Since I'm very limited on space, the others will have to stay under wraps so they can hide everything stuffed within
ReplyDeleteawesome.....and I would say, what a great alternative to just leaving them open like quite a few do....I have a white kitchen.....favorite room of the house! isn't it that way for most people?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I can imagine the difference that makes in your kitchen! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThey look great!!
ReplyDeleteAmy
This look fabulous, Susie! I want to do this with one cabinet at the lake. I'm going to show this to J.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Love the new look in your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out FABULOUS Susie! Way to go! I'm going to have to do something with my kitchen, soon. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeletexxxx
Good Morning Susie!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have a very similar kitchen plan. I have the same cabinets with silver hardware and one set of cabinets with glass doors. I love it! It's like looking at my own kitchen, but painted white! After seeing how great it looks how can I not do this! Now all I need is to have you come over and help me! He He!
I know! A painting playdate! Come on, you know you want to....
Good look for the cabinets. Probably even smarter to not do them all. chic can go to messy so quick with full-of-stuff cupboards. : } pokey
ReplyDeleteYour cabinets look beautiful now! I liked them before, but with the glass they are just gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that. Maybe I can convince my hubby that we should do it too!
ReplyDeleteI love it! BEAUTIFUL! And it's true, fear can stand in the way, but once you overcome it, the results can be amazing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!!! I have oak cabinets in my kitchen and I SO WANT to paint them white! I think that my sweet husband, who let's me do anything I want, may possibly have a heart attack when I mention it! But I want to SO BAD!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me once again!
Thank you :)
Lou Cinda
They look amazing! Thanks so much for sharing...I may just have to try it myself (if my husband lets me...he isn't as adventurous as I am).
ReplyDeleteWow Susie that is simply AMAZING!! I really LOVE the look!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fabulous. You come up with some great ideas.
ReplyDeleteok susie! love it! and yes! i am one of those who fear! fear i will mess up! fear that it will be harder to sell when the time comes! ugh! i want to see your hanging pot holder! i got a peek and want to see more!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Susie! :) Fear stops me all the time...I think it might be an "oldest child/slightly Type A" thing. I don't want to mess up. I am learning slowly that "it doesn't have to be perfect..." well, you know the rest. ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic!!! I love white cabinets...we rent, so I better not go transforming his kitchen! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSusie, they look so good. I would like to do this on two of my very own cabinets.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful and I am inspired to paint my cabinets too! Not ready for the glass . . . What paint did you use? Semi gloss?
ReplyDeleteYep! Semi gloss it is....;)
ReplyDeleteThey look really wonderful! I will take your words to heart and try more of my crazy ideas! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, hello again. Funny meeting you here....OK this is just getting silly.
ReplyDeleteThe cabinets are A-MAZ-ING! I'm in the process of redoing my cabinets and would love to open up just two of mine as well. My cabinets suck though and are just one large chunk of wood. No bevels, no prettiness, just flat. Blah!
Nice work!
I had to laugh, looking at your pictures I thought to myself "self, her glass looks so clean! hmmmm" and then I have gotten the irresistible urge to clean...can you believe that...clean all my windows. What an inspiring post dear one. Thanks! Big smile.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Seriously, the cabinets are beautiful.
You did such a wonderful job! love it!!!
ReplyDeletevery nice!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I definitely am going to try this!
ReplyDeleteconsider me inspired... :)
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing. Yes, fear has me stopped in my tracks because I don't want to mess anything up. Or because I don't know how to do something. Thank you for posting this!
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous. The cabinet paint job is wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteReally nice!! I was thinking about doing the EXACT same thing, and like you, was scared to try it. Now that I've seen the result, I'm going in with guns blazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThose look amazing. I'm planning on doing clas cabinet doors in our kitchen...only in a few also because like you...I will have a lot of junk in the trunk :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nora
OMG.... I love this and I'm going to do this to my cabinets. Once I figure out how... Thanks so much for such a great idea....
ReplyDeletefear is what always stops my projects. I get what i like to call analysis paralysis...i overthink what i need to do, get overwhelmed and scared and then scrap the idea all together.
ReplyDeleteIt looks spectacular. You are a very brave woman to give that a try.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!
Ruth
Your new cabinets looks amazing Susie and to be able to see all your nice china and glassware.
ReplyDeleteJob well done.
Enjoy your weekend
Hugs
Carolyn
I didn't read all the comments but DITTO on what I KNOW was said about the glass in your cabinet doors!!! Fantastic, girl!
ReplyDeleteMy comment was more in the lines of "what happened to your other babckground and header?" I miss it :)
Hello Susie - wowee! I'm in love with your beautiful glass cabinets! How fabulous are they. And what a difference the glass does make! I'm so glad you stepped outside your comfort zone and went ahead with it. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marie

Do you ever sleep? LOL This looks so awesome- painting the cabinets really opened up your room and adding the glass was the icing on the cake! Fantastic job, Susie.
ReplyDelete:-) Sue
I love the new look!!! I really want to do that to my cabinets, I thought Babins put the glass in for you. That is the part that looks super scary to me. You know how I hate to cut myself. Maybe you could help me when I get back. Also whats up for Labor Day for ya'll? Would be a good time to take Maddie to the camp.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I want to advertise...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE,how that looks, I just need something to sell LOL Well maybe, just maybe I will have my AHHH moment...
ReplyDeleteI think it turned out beautifully...and your right...it does add a lot of visual space. I did something similar...I just all together took off some of the doors on the top cabinets and now they look more like shelving.
ReplyDeleteLove these!! I have been playing around with doing this for about a year -- I am sooo scared to take the cabinet door out!!! I can have someone do it for $25 each but know I could do it myself if I would quit being such a wimp!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job. Love the way it turned out. You have been a busy girl!
ReplyDeleteHello, just leaving you a comment as I've so enjoyed looking around your site and reading your lovely posts. Great pictures too !
ReplyDeleteThank so much for sharing them and I hope you have a fab weekend (well, the rest of it anyway...)!
Best wishes to you
WOW! I still can't get over you have 67 comments! How long have you been blogging?
ReplyDeleteLove your new header and love the crisp white cabinets. Looks super.
Have a blessed one. Hugs from Texas.
I love your ideas! I've considered doing this with my kitchen cabinets, but mine are pretty narrow. So I am afraid it might not look that good. But yours look terrific!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Great job.. I love the white cabinets.. I want white.. I am tired of this stained wood look.. I need to brighten up.
ReplyDeleteToo. Hot. To. Sleep. In.
ReplyDeleteI take back what I said ;)
We're just silly.....
Anyway,he he, nice new digs! Love the header. LOVE IT.
I could cry. Six years ago when we moved in I had glass cut for all of my cabinet doors. Gorgeous seeded glass. Now my house is on the market and the glass pieces are still sitting in their cardboard, taped up and dusty. I guess I will leave them for the new owners. So they can have the kitchen that I once hoped I could have. Boo hoo!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation. This one is definitely going into my inspiration file ~ thanX for sharing the details.
ReplyDeleteLove your new glass doors! That always makes a kitchen look better. I wish my doors were real wood & I just might have to do it too. Can't do it on laminate doors. And my hubby is not a fan of glass doors, why I don't know?!
ReplyDeleteYours look great!!
Oh, and I'm loving your new look, very pretty & very YOU.
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome. Totally changed the look of those cabinets.
ReplyDeleteFear keeps us form doing a lot of things, both craft wise, and especially in life.
Blessings,
Barbara Jean
Love it! You go girl they look great.
ReplyDeleteOh Susie,
ReplyDeleteI love the glass doors, now I wish I had installed a couple in my new kitchen.
Hhhmm, with this post I see that I could do it.
Thanks
They look fab! I have been working on my kitchen for a while now. Trying to spruce it up here and there. I have always loved white cabinets and glass...very clean modern look.

ReplyDeletePretty. I had to laugh because I just painted my previously distressed cabinets white last week. Love them! So fresh.
ReplyDeleteGOOD FOR YOU!
ReplyDeleteThat horrible old guy Fear has spent too much time in my house, too. Sounds like you've banished him. Congratulations! I'll try to come right along with you.
Beautiful. See what happens when we take a chance....hey it's only paint right....and I love the glass fronts.

Susie~
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new blog header...great texture! And the cabinets WOW! They came out great and you are an inspiration fo'sure!
Gorgeous!!! Great job creating a crisp, clean, open space! I toyed with the idea of painting our oak cabinets in the old house, but never did. The glass fronts on painted cabinets would have done wonders for that kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? 90 comments on this one? you're a blogging celebrity! :D Love the glass doors, but can i see a "far away" picture of them? I love the close ups, don't get me wrong, but to get the full effect a "far away" shot would be gret! :D You're ever so crafty... I'm always inspired by you and wonder how in the world you find time to do all the creative things you do!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog through Rue's...It is great!! Love all your DIYS..am going to follow.

Aww Miss Susie! I love the cabinets, I probably commented on them before, because they're fab but I'm coming back around from the party and I still adore them.
ReplyDelete:)
so gorgeous! I just love it. Would love to do this in my kitchen...but cannot get my husband to agree. Maybe I will use your post to encourage him!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I just ripped out all my upper cabinets in favor of open shelving! Check my blog here soon for after photos! I wanted to do what you did, but my cabinets were in too poor of shape! Found you through Take a Risk. . .
ReplyDeleteOh Susie, they are gorgeous! I've been wanting to do the same thing to two of my cabinets but like you I am scared!
ReplyDeleteI think it may just be my next project. Thanks for the confidence :)

ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love this project. I am not brave enough to open up my cabinets...well, I do have a couple in my old kitchen that don't have doors...so I guess that counts.
...I am brave. sometimes. Pat
