I could not resist a moment longer! I had to show you the after before the before. This... my friends... is a DYI dream kitchen...
You may remember that I painted and glazed my cabinets. I loved them but after some time I began to long for a clean crisp feel. So the journey began...I removed the doors from two of the cabinets
I have a room full of cabinets but decided on opening up only two. Way too much junk in my trunk if you know what I mean. I brought the cabinets to a friend {just so happens he owns a woodworking shop} to have a notch put in. You can do this at home if you have the tools. I did not....thank you Lord for friends!
This is what they looked like just an hour later! A bit scary at this point. Praying hard I did not just screw up my entire kitchen
I then painted the inside of the cabinets..
I then brought my cabinet doors to a glass shop and had them cut two pieces for me. Remember before you install your glass...paint the door! Trust me on this one. You do not want raw wood showing behind your glass.
I glued my glass in with a clear silicon.
Goop will come out but don't fret because once it dries it peels right off. Let it dry over night and then you are ready to go!
I think having glass doors just made my kitchen two sizes bigger!
I only wish I had done this years ago...

Fear ...
Fear of messing up!
I have a new way of looking at things now...
You just never know till you give it a try.

Now your kitchen which was gorgeous before just got that little something extra that took it beyond gorgeous! I'm thrilled you have a such a lovely kitchen(& home) that reflects your sweet creative spirit.
I love this look and really, you made it so easy. This should not stop anyone. My drawback is I have so much stashed in my cupboard that it would require a major clean out and I'm just not ready to tackle that. hahaha Sea Witch

Always on the cutting edge there Susieq.. in 2004 or so Lynette Jennings did a remake on a kitchen that did something like this yet she went one step further using a faux leading tape to give the gave a lead glass feel and reality. Hubby an I were in the middle of a redo in our kitchen, all came to a halt until the order from http://www.vandykes.com/product/cg140005/traditional-lead-tape-1-4-x-33- came in .. holy cow, what a difference it made to the cabinets and our kitchen sold the our home 3 years ago.

Yep, fear is stopping me. HAHA. Seriously though, hubby's job has us move every 2-4 years and to have our house resalable....is that a word??? we have to keep things neutral. So, I haven't gone hog wild with my ideas...but one day, when we stay put, I WILL!

Look great. I'm in the early stages of a mini kitchen redo myself and I'm planning to open up one cabinet with seeded glass in the doors. Since I'm very limited on space, the others will have to stay under wraps so they can hide everything stuffed within

It's like looking at my own kitchen, but painted white! After seeing how great it looks how can I not do this! Now all I need is to have you come over and help me! He He!

ReplyDeleteThe cabinets are A-MAZ-ING! I'm in the process of redoing my cabinets and would love to open up just two of mine as well. My cabinets suck though and are just one large chunk of wood. No bevels, no prettiness, just flat. Blah!

ReplyDeleteI think it turned out beautifully...and your right...it does add a lot of visual space. I did something similar...I just all together took off some of the doors on the top cabinets and now they look more like shelving.

I could cry. Six years ago when we moved in I had glass cut for all of my cabinet doors. Gorgeous seeded glass. Now my house is on the market and the glass pieces are still sitting in their cardboard, taped up and dusty. I guess I will leave them for the new owners. So they can have the kitchen that I once hoped I could have. Boo hoo!!!!

Gorgeous!!! Great job creating a crisp, clean, open space! I toyed with the idea of painting our oak cabinets in the old house, but never did. The glass fronts on painted cabinets would have done wonders for that kitchen.
