While consulting with a design professional in a stuffy boardroom about my cottage... Nawww.. Had you going there didn't I? I was really talking to a design professional, her name is Layla from the Lettered Cottage but I was in my closet{only room in the house where I can run away too and be alone}. She had called the other night and we were just chatting about my lil cottage and I was sharing with her about the floors. She came up with a great idea! She suggested I paint a design right onto the plywood floor. Well you know I was all over that idea and could not sleep a wink that night.

So the very next morning I put Layla's plan to action. I first found the center of the room and started taping off where my checkered design would go.

This is a very tricky thing to do. It's not easy when you are impatient like me and want it done asap.

I sanded the areas that will be painted.

Rolling..rolling...rolling...I used a semi gloss paint in the sweetest shade of blue ever.

I then sanded the painted part for a rustic feel. See the scratches...

I was a bit worried at first that this would make the small room even smaller but boy was I wrong.

I find that it makes the room so much larger.

I did go over the floor once again with a poly... just to give it a bit more shine and durability.

This is what I love so much about bloggin' and friendships. Two heads are always better than one and just look at the result!

Thanks Layla!
There's only one word for your new floor...G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I can't wait to see the finished cottage!

What a delightful floor and I'm crazy about the palest shade of blue that you used. You will enjoy walking on your lovely floor each and every day. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteLooks terrific!
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful. Kuddos to you for being patient enough to tape that out. I'm not sure I could've done it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Monday.
Looks so great! I love checkerboard anything and think it is perfect for your cottage floor.
ReplyDeleteWow! I loved it before, but this is even better. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...keep racking up heads, if the results are this great.
ReplyDeletecan you move next door to me? the house is for sale!
ReplyDeleteit looks faboo
that floor is fantastic!!! i can't wait to see the whole thing put together. :o)
ReplyDeleteIsn't Layla amazing? And you can call her your friend. You are a lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteLove the floors. This is going to be such a happy space. A space heater for the winter and a small fridge and you'll be set!Ha.
OH! This is so WEIRD! I so wanted to suggest to you the other day that you paint diamonds on the floor {I've been throwing around the idea of doing it in my kitchen and spent the latter part of the week trying to decide between painting on new hardwood when we install it or going with some kind nice vinyl tile}Anyway, it was fresh on my brain and I kept looking at your floor thinking about how lovely it was but how nice it would look, too, in checks! Lol, so imagine my surprise to see your post this morning! It's like a dream, hehe! It definitely does make the space look larger. This is what I want to do, but in red. I did a brown and white checkers on the landing in my studio and love it! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Your little cottage is coming along so cute! :o)
ReplyDeleteDid you see my new old windows? I have worked on them this weekend and I can't wait to show where they end up. I gave one to a friend and she hung it in her car port! Too cute! :o)
Have a great day!
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Ps. Have you ever gone to the Blueberry Jubilee in Poplarville, MS to sell your crafts?
Just awesome Susie!

ReplyDeleteGREAT JOB!
Layla
You did a fabulous job- looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou are the second person to post a checkered floor in a week. I did this to my sister-in-laws sunroom about 6 years ago and loved it then and still love what you girls are doing.

This is beautiful, Susie! I'm so happy you did this! I was thinking checkered floor, too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! What a great way to make use of the floor you have! We started taking up our kitchen floor and I'm deciding what to do with the wood underneath. I'm leaning toward a cream/tan checkerboard pattern using porch paint. Or I may just stain the whole thing. You are inspiring me to go with the checkerboard!
ReplyDelete~Michelle
Oh, Susie, I just love checkerboards. I could have given you the same idea, as I did a black & white floor on my old porch floor (plywood) in GA. In fact, I've got a post going up soon about that little porch & how I did the floor. I loved it & I know you're gonna love this too. It really adds some character.
ReplyDeleteToo cool! Our kitchen has that flooring!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love this!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, it turned out great! I didn't think that after you stained them that they could look any better, but you girls totally proved me wrong!
ReplyDeleteOh your floor is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteWe could play a big game of chess and use ourselves. :)
This is so pretty!!!! great job!
ReplyDeletehave a good week!
Eddie
All I can say is FANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! We did that, too, in a friend's kitchen. You can see it here: http://katandgray.blogspot.com/2009/02/one-anothering-kitchen-style.html . It came out well, but it hasn't worn as well as she would have liked. She did a wax finish over the top but is going to touch up the black squares and then seal it with poly like you did.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
~WOW! Susie this is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
ReplyDeleteSusie-Q, this is just precious!! I am loving it!! I was actually telling my Hubby about it yesterday. He looked at me and said, "Is this a friend from bloggyland or someone here in town?" Bless his heart! I would love to come and see it!! Can't wait to see your next step.
ReplyDeleteWhen does Madison go back to school?
Hugs,
Susan

ReplyDeleteWow....it is coming along so nicely! I just love this and can't wait to see the finish product.
ReplyDeleteI JUST LOVE DOING CHECKERBOARD FLOORS ALSO, WHEN I HAVE A LOT TO DO FOR MY CLIENTS, I GET 2 MEDIUM PIZZA BOXES & ALTERNATE THEM ON THE FLOOR, DRAW A FAINT LINE, THAT WAY YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAPE OFF ANYTHING, JUST PAINT EVERY OTHER SQUARE :) SORRY I DIDN'T FIND YOU BEFORE YOU STARTED, IT WOULD HAVE SAVED YOU ALOT OF TIME, BUT IT'S GORGEOUS ANYWAY. GIO

Susie - is looks great! I did this 11 years ago in my house on my dining room hardwood floors that were just yucky. I didn't tape though - I got a 15x15 square and went around the room and "drew" them in. My color was hunter green. I then used a clear stain and went over the whole thing twice and I still get compliments. Love it! Layla has so many good idea's.....
ReplyDeleteLove it! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I have been thinking of doing this in my entry or maybe dining room. Looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo absolutely beautiful. This cottage is going to be spectacular. I can't wait to see it when it's completed.

Herve Leger, sometimes deliberately written as Herve Leger is a French fashion house founded by the designer Herve Peugnet, also known as Herve L. Leroux Herve Leger Dresses was founded in 1985 by the designer Herve Peugnet (1957–2017). The same year Karl Lagerfeld advised Peugnet that his surname Peugnet would be too difficult for Americans, the target market, to pronounce, and instead suggested the surname Leger. Having lost the rights to the Herve Leger name, Peugnet later took a third "brand" name as Sexy Sailor Herve Leger in 2000.A model walking the runway at Herve Leger Bandage Dresses Fall/Winter 2014 show at New York Fashion Week, February 2014.
