What's your brand?

See this yummy shower curtain. It's a bueat {thats pretty in susie terms}!I dont think I would buy it even if I had the 124.99. Why? Cause its just too darn much to spend on a shower curtain. Now if you have or plan to spend 124.99 on a shower curtain thats ok too. Im just sayin' I couldn't

What I would do is march my lil fanny to the Target and fill my cart to the brim with this sweet thing. It's 29.99 and in my budget. Im not planning on a bathroom redo anytime soon I just wanted yall to see how a brand can be great big or small.

And these lovely towels. Pretty to look at but could you spend your nest egg to dry off with? I couldn't and wouldn't but I would pick up some less $$ ones at my favorite store and sew a strip of fabric across the bottom. Then I would still be able to feed my family that week and look good while drying off.

I know I promised to share some of what I learned at Blissdom. Well this is it.My mind always works in the decorating mode, sorry. We all have a brand. Our blog and who we are is our brand. Our blog doesn't have to be the biggest or the best to be great. We just have to find our voice and use it. Just like my taste in decorating I want my voice {my blog} to say the same. There are some awesome blogs out there. Many I just dream of becoming one day.

Kinda like Sherwin Williams paint. I love it! I have used it and sang its praises BUT

I still paint with Walmart {because I paint so often} and it works as well for me. Did I loose you here with my ramblings on towels and brands and paint. I hope not. I just wanted to pass on my bit of knowledge from a frugal decorators point of view. There will always be bigger brands out there. They are wonderful indeed but isnt this world such a great place that we have a choice to pick our brands and what works best for "us". So now that being said,if you feel as though your brand {blog} isnt the biggest that's ok . Your brand needs to be heard too. One day I might just be a Neiman Marcus but today Im just ok being a "Target". It just gives this girl room to dream.

Hold the phone, did you just say that you're *okay* with being Target??? Okay, seriously, I love Target. Personally, I love Target over Neiman Marcus or anything hoity any day. Give me Target!! or give me death!! lol. okay, it's late, and I'm tired. :)

  2. I am a Target*aholic!! I have yet to attend a meeting though...lol.
I am with you on the brand thing, nice if you can get it on clearance otherwise how can you enjoy it??
I guess I am a oreo pie in a french silk pie world!!!
I am ready for some Blissdom learning too!!

  3. I, too, would drop dead before paying that much for shower curtains or anything along that line. I love decorating on a budget when it comes out looking great. Guess that's why I love thrifting so much.
    Good post, girl!!

  4. I prefer Target to Neiman any day.
I'm a lot like that too. Why spend more when you don't have to??
    Thanks Susie.

  6. Absolutely - "to each his own" as the old saying goes...everyone is different and I so enjoy other peoples blogs and their point of view or decorating ideas.

I don't live near a Target so can't give you any real opinions on that...but I do know that price is not always the best road to travel.

Keep up the spreading of the word of beautiful decorating using a small amount of money.

  7. Target is a great place to find "the" look for less...I did what looks like a fancy shower curtain out of a duvet cover, it is all about thinking outside of the box!

  8. If you're a Target I guess I'm a Dollar Tree. BWAHAHAHAHA! I crack myself up. I agree with these ladies...Target is da bomb (do people even say that anymore?) and being down to earth and real is much better than trying to keep up with the Joneses.

  9. I'm with HeathaLee....I guess I'm a DollarTree......I'm not sure what my brand is, actually. Is that something other people identify for you or you just decide on and go for it????? I'm just me....oh, wait, is that a brand?

  10. I GUSH to people about how much I love Target! So much better than other stores!! :) And just because a blog is "popular", doesn't mean it is a favorite with everyone! Some of my favorites are the "smaller" blogs -- well written, great ideas, lovely photos, just not as widely known yet! Great post on finding (and being proud of and happy with) your brand! :)

  11. Having the balance is what it is all about. Knowing your limits and being comfortable within them. Sometimes it is Sherwin...sometimes Walmart...but be comfortable whatever it is.

You are so right. I think your Brand {Blog} speaks for itself. It tells us who you are, what you love, and it defines your "Bliss".

  13. Susie, I know why I love your blog - you are so real. I have a completely different decorating style - country primitive - but I still feel right at home here.

You're creativity and honesty benefit us all, no matter what our style!

  14. Thanks for sharing, I loved your post. I'm a Target girl too. What does it mean if your "brand" is the Goodwill? :)
Does that Walmart paint really work well? I'm getting ready to paint my bedroom, and have always used SW because I'm afraid to try anything else.

  15. Oh Susie,
I am so much more a Target girl than a Neiman Marcus one. I absolutely LOVE Target. It is probably a good thing the closest one is a little over an hour away cause otherwise, we might be broke!!!

  16. What a wonderful post. I truly get what you're saying! Sometimes I get too caught up in the 'numbers' of the whole thing, when I started my blog to be an outlet for my decorating obsession/creativity. So I guess I'm a Target too...and you now what I just love "Tar-jay!"

  17. I am new to your blog but love your thoughts on the big brands. I like to think of my blog as a fledgling quirky little boutique - you know the kind - stuck away on some side street full of kookie little tidbits. Sometimes you have to look to find them but they are there - oh shoot, I'm rambling... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good point. I actually put off starting a blog because I didn't know if anybody would read it and I didn't want to feel "unpopular" (I already did Jr. High, thanks). Now I do have a few readers, but I'm in the Dollar Tree category or less, but that's okay. Really, my blog is for me, and if others enjoy it and get something from it, that's icing on the cake!

  20. I'm right there with you with the Color Place paint. A friend of my mom's used to work for Sherwin Williams and he told her that they actually make the Color Place paint for Wally world. I had them color match a gallon for me from a paint chip from Sherwin Williams and they guy told me," Oh this is easy, ours is the same paint as theirs, so it will be exactly the same." Bonus, the same paint and half the price.

  21. Count me in the Tar-jay crowd as well. Is there anything you can't find there?

If I spent $125 on a shower curtain I would have to use it until I died (many, many years down the road). If I spent $25 I could change it in a year or two and not feel guilty.

Not to mention I'd have an extra $100 to play with. It's my "voo-doo math." Hubby doesn't get it, but it works...

  22. Walmart paint works for me!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I absolutely love Target! Oh and I've used the "fix up the Wal-mart towel with some fabric" trick for many a year. Works for me. I'll hunt down a bargain everytime.

And always remember, if you can't find the shower curtain, of your dreams, in bath accessories, try sheets. I've done that several times. Many times you can pick up a pretty sheet at a huge bargain price. Perhaps paying no more that $10 or even less!

We just switched over to using SW paint last year. We hit a whizbang sale, over Christmas, at the Osage Beach SW store and went to town painting the condo. It's the only paint J ever used and didn't complain, so for now SW is our brand. But I'm not averse to using Wal-mart or Lowes paint either.

I understand what you are saying about blogs and growing. I'm a little ol' lady and love how my little ol' blog is going along, with a little nip and tuck now and then. Not to infer I would nip or tuck anything personally, not that there is anything wrong with it.

    Great post!

  24. I am definately a Target girl (and TJ Maxx, Marshals, and Tuesday Morning). I appreciate your great tips for blogging! I'm in the process of finding my voice (brand) for my new blog.

  25. I just found you and I love this post!! So very true!! Love how real you are, too!

I have no idea where this blogging thing will take me, but I am having such a blast, and am meeting some great new friends! It just keeps getting better!

I think I will have to go to Blissdom next year!

    Love your "BRAND"!!

  26. Very good post. Thank you for sharing this. I often feel like a very small fish out here in Blogland, wondering if it's worth it to keep swimming, or give up. :)

I agree with the other commenters, though. I much prefer Target over any other store. Even if I had unlimited funds. Target just rocks. So, if you're a "Target" kinda blog, well, I think I just found another kindred spirit. :)

  27. Thanks so much for sharing your Blissdom knowledge for those of us who weren't able to attend.
Let's see, if you're a Target, then that probably makes me a thrift store.;~)

  30. Target...oh, yeah! You're right aobut people finding their voice and sticking with it. It's what we come to expect in a person't blog. Mine is general rambling! No one ever knows what I'll be writing about next...including myself! So glad that you and Missy had fun this weekend.

    Hugs,

  32. I had fun reading your last few posts to catch up on your blog hun! Looks like you had a GREAT trip! That is refreshing, hu? And this post about not buying all the fancy dancy name brands for house things...I couldn't agree more! Happy day wishes...Les

  33. I love this post! I am a Target girl myself in the "brand" sense. Maybe one day I'll be a Neiman Marcus, but I will always remember my roots and the "friends" that have been with me from the beginning! In the shopping sense, I love Target, but we don't have one in my town so currently I am a Wal-mart girl! If there are any Target CEOs out there, you are more than welcome to bring one to my town!!!

  34. Howdy Susie!

Here's my philosophy...why pay more when you don't have to and being a woman I often change my mind. Who am I kidding, I change my mind A LOT...so I'd much rather have less expensive accessories! That way I don't feel TIED to the item for a decade :) Your blog is you and I for one can relate to your "target-ness" than the "neimans" in others any day of the week! Thanks for putting yourself out there :)

P.S. I bragged on you (via my fabulous sign) on my blog today, hope you don't mind

    Blessings!

  35. I so agree. I usually find just as cute things where you don't have to go into debt to get them. It's way more fun to find something that I love and buy it cheap and fix it up and make it work. My opinion. Mimi

  36. Oooh! Great finds! What would we EVER do without Target?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like to have a well decorated house and I believe that I can find things either on sale or things that look expensive that are not. I simply couldn't not imagine paying that much for a shower curtain!

  38. So very true. I did not think of myself or blog as having a brand but in today's world I guess that is what it is.

  40. Oh, Susieness, honey, I love ya no matter what brand you are. I adore "Target" and like others, would rather shop there than those really expensive stores. I would feel like I was just throwing my money to the wind. I like to strechhhhhhhhhhhh my money. I tell this all the time to Mr. Precious! lol

  46. HI, my sweet friend! I think we all came home brimming with new information about blogging & how to do it better. I know I did. Good analogy on the decorating thing. I guess there will always be bigger blogs out there & we just have to make our own little place in blogland special & hope that others keep coming back to see us. I think I've got a pretty good handle on my "brand", but I sure would like to make it even better.
