My spin on design on a dime

If your like me you just look at this magazine and dream...

I saw these pumpkins and about flipped out! I loved them....I would have ordered them right on the spot but they were to $$$$. You know me! I have to hunt down a bargin.

Then I saw these and loved them more... why? Cause I paid only $1.00 for each.

I know you are grabbing your little purses by now and heading for that door to get you some... Where?...

The Dollar Tree!

I saw these in Ballard too.... Im on the look out for a priced down version. When I find them you girls will be the first to know...
I know you may think Im rushing fall way too fast. It's just so darn hot here a girls gotta dream. Too, I always think first day of school...then fall. I did make some new tassels this weekend between being a nurse for Jesse. We fought fever all weekend and ended up in the emergency room Sunday morning. His throat was so swollen he could hardly swallow. Not only will he be missing school he will be unable to work for about a few month's till his spleen heals. For a kid that's not punishment but for me it's gonna be hard. He pays his own car insurance. If you know insurance and a 17 yr old boy... $$$. I have this added to my list of stress. God is so good though. Just this weekend I sold enough tassels to pay his insurance for this month. Thank you! Please keep us all in your prayers. Boys and this kind of sickness....Brutal!!!!!

Don't ya love it when you come across a deal like that?

I know what you mean about the heat, and rushing fall. Though, we've had a break from the intense heat here in KY the last 2 days.

I will keep your son in my prayers. My little one has been battling fever and tonsilitis for 4days. It doesn't matter if they're 4 or 14, it's always hard on mama to have a sick baby!

Ah great bargains! I saw similar pumpkins at HomeGoods on Saturday. More pricey than $1. I'm looking for white ones, so I'll be checking out and hopefully checking out at the $1 Tree...thanks for the info, Susie!!

Don't you LOVE Ballard?? There is actually a brick and mortar in Jacksonville that I go to whenever I get the chance. I got my chandelier there! Looks like I may be heading to the Dollar Tree today... I'm sick with copy-cattingness. Yes, that's a word.

I sure hope your son is better soon. He sounds miserable, the poor kid!!

I can sympathize with you on your sick child, no matter what the age they are our babies and we'd rather be sick ourselves then see them unwell.

Oh after this weekend in Charleston I have to be good, not even the Dollar Store can tempt me, the YS Fairy was smiling kindly upon me... hehehe

I think styrofoam cones and moss would do the trick but moss is kind of pricey isn't it? Gonna check at the Lobby to see, maybe with a coupon or 50% off sale that project would be made low cost, what do you think? I can't wait to see your spin on it!

Are you serious?! Those pumpkins came from the dollar tree? I'll be honest, I didn't even finish reading the post before I came over to comment. I MUST make it over there this week. Thanks!

(I'll go back and finish reading the post now.:) )

Aw, I just finished reading the post. Your kiddo is in my prayers.

Your son is still in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Gosh, he is really battling with all that fever.

Well, you know I'll have to go to Dollar Tree today. I haven't been there in awhile and those pumpkins are adorable. We got rain all last night (YEA) and our temps. are only supposed to reach about 85 today. I'll take that anytime over high 90's or 100's.

Great finds...I understand trying to rush into fall if the summers' been hot...we are the opposite, we've had a mild summer...so all I'm looking for is school starting...

As for the fate in selling enough to pay for the insurance...yeah!!

Ok, I'm heading out to DT ASAP! Love those little pumpkins! Last time I was at DT, I picked up some black crows (the Martha type) and I can't wait to use them for Halloween!
I'm so sorry about your son. I hope he starts feeling better soon!

So sorry for Jesse, what a horrible way to start this school year. I hope his fever is under control now.
Love the pumpkins, I agree about fall and cool weather. We all are ready for it but know we'll have months of hot humid weather!

Your poor son! Hope he starts feeling better soon! My son has had it twice while away at college! The college had no sympathy...he still had to go...one class he got a D in because of attendance...how do you make an 8 AM class with mono??? So glad you sold enough of your beautiful tassels to make his car insurance!
Have a great day!

What a deal! I've also seen those pumpkins at Hobby Lobby. I'm sure they weren't the deal you got though. I'm ready for Fall too! I LOVE the tassel with the berries and bird. So cute!!!

Hi Susie,
Love your finds! I never find such great deals. Seriously. I guess I've been looking for love in all the wrong places.

I'm so sorry your son is so sick. If you want some info about what to do to help him, email me at basketsrme at aol dot com. I have a great book that I reference for illnesses, etc. I'd be happy to share with you what it says.

Blessings,

I love Ballard - I copy them a lot since I can't afford them! I rush fall too...I'm ready for cooler weather for sure. At least where I can turn the A/C off ($$$) and open the windows for fresh air!

So sorry about Jesse...I hope he is feeling better soon. Worrying about money on top of kids = a lot of stress! I'm sure everything will work itself out!

Hey, Susie, I have a hard time getting into fall yet, but those are really cute & a bargain. Love Ballards! One of my favorite catalogs to dream in. I don't usually do a lot of fall decorating, but I've got some acorns & pinecones that will probably go out this year in the foyer.

Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality said...

Oh, yes! I really hope your son gets better very soon too!

I LOVE these Dollar Tree pumpkins! Fall is my fav season, and I'll start decorating in Sept. Thanks for the tip!
I feel for your son, I really do. I know the throat pain can be terrible. I stopped talking/sleeping when I had mono cause of the pain. Popsicles/milk shakes were the only little bit of relief for me. They helped numb a little to swallow, and at least got me some fluids. Maybe your son would try?
Blessings,
Stacey

Oh, no, I feel another Dollar Tree intervention in my future...

I'm praying Jesse gets better QUICKLY and you have the strength you need to be the Momma he needs. And yes, the Lord will be faithful!

I saw the $ store pumpkins, but didn't get any. I know, what was I thinking? I'm thinking that it is 100 degrees here and I cannot put up my fall stuff yet. I'll wait a couple more weeks, but I may still stop by the dollar store today to see if there are any left.

I got a few fall picks and their little straw broom to put on the front door. I think it looks cute.

The Berry's Patch said...

I keep seeing Fall on all the blogs. I may have to put my Fall stuff out early. I'm already buying Fall stuff but it's not making the weather any better. :-(

So sorry about your son. I hope he feels better soon.

The Dollar Tree?!?! Wow, they know how to get us, don't they?? You could make your own topiaries. You are crafty enough. Just go get the pots and forms and moss from Michael's and have fun gluing.
Thanks for the heads-up!!

I got those exact pumpkins at our dollar tree and stashed them away! Sometimes they have the best stuff! You would never guess they are a dollar! Texas has been so hot this last week-we are ready for a break too. I listened to Christmas music while making dinner the other night. Just to feel cool!

Hi:

I have pumpkins like the ones you show from Ballard, I purchased mine from BIG LOTS. I love to use them during the fall.

Susie,
I've had no internet for the past 5 days. So sorry to hear about your son. I had mono last year and it was brutal. I have never been so tired in my life. Just a constant exhaustion. Sleeping is the best thing, but even after sleeping all day, I'd still feel tired! It amazed me.

Be sure at the end of it, as he starts to feel better, that he doesn't overdo it. That can cause major setbacks and even more serious conditions.

Love your kitchen redo!

oh boy, am I glad I took a blog break today!! Just yesterday I was looking at my mantle thinking about fall. I really want to gussy it up, but we also started on a budget which is heavy on saving and slim on spending. I will so be at the dollar tree thinking about you!

rcstaub said...

Target has some topiaries verrrry similar to those - I've seen them for several weeks in the Smith & Hawken section in the home decor aisles...
no bows and I think the pots are a different color...but those details are easily fixed. ;)

Chris said...

Okay, I love the pumpkins! As for the topiaries...you could totally make those yourself! Get some moss, some styrofoam, and a tera cotta pot! I'm sorry about your son. I will pray for him (and you!).

I got home today, and ran right out to that good ole dollar tree, and yours is better than mine. I did not pick up any because they had 3 that were kind of pitiful looking, so I am thinking they have more stuff to put out. I'll be checking back for more. I hope Jesse will start improving soon. When my boy is sick or trying to heal, it is difficult for both of us. You are in my prayers.

Kitty Scraps said...

Just got home from work and wanted to let you know I checked with the lady in floral and she says green moss and styrofoam never goes on sale so must wait for a coupon. No coupon this week. Drats!

Shelia said...

Hi Susie! I love your bargain pumpkins! I may have to go and check that out too! I wish I could feel a little autumn in the air, it's just too hot here. Poor little son, I'm sorry he's so sick. My children never had mono and I don't know alot about it. I know it must be hard on you, too!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Yep! We could definitely be shopping buddies---except we'd probably fight over the same things. I know because I bought those same pumpkins at the Dollar Tree a couple of weeks ago.
We would probably entertain all of the customers in the store as we played tug-of-war with the merchandise.
I hope your son will start on the road to recovery and you won't have anymore hospital visits.
